A classic Commodore 64 game, remade for your PC
Project Paradroid is a faithful remake of the 1985 Commodore 64 game Paradroid. The back story is that you've had reports indicating a spacecraft has been taken over by mutinous droids. A droid "influence device" has been sent aboard to restore order. You control the device.
To restore order, you must clear the ship of droids. There are two ways to do this, by shooting them, or by "influencing" them, which means taking them over. Shooting is straight forward, but hold the action key, and your droid goes into "transfer mode". Bump into an enemy droid now, and you enter a kind of puzzle mini game, where you have to take over the mind of the other droid.
Your 001 droid is fairly weak, and the higher number droid you face, the stronger they will be. So, you can increase your power by taking over droids, and moving up the food chain. When you clear a level, the lights dim, and you can move to the next.
There has never really been anything like Paradroid, even though it received rave reviews upon its release. The graphics in Project Paradroid have been updated, and look good, although veterans might miss the original bas-relief style. Thankfully, the great original sound effects have been kept. It's strangely atmospheric, and difficult to stop once you get into it.
Project Paradroid will have certainly please fans of the original, one of the most compelling, and well balanced video games ever made. Highly recommended.

Not exact, but not too bad either.
Project Paradroid isn't exactly the same as it's legendary C64 inspiration, but all-in-all, it's not bad either. On the downside, the movement seems a tad slow to me & using the keyboard, it seems a little unresponsive; tho' to be fair, I always used a joystick "back in the day" so I guess a keyboard WOULD seem unresponsive... ...another minor disappointment was the lack of imagination in the pictures of the actual droids in the "specifications" section (I can't remember the name of that section when one accesses the ship's computers...) ...and, finally, I feel it takes much too long to switch over to transfer mode.On the upside, the intro is great, the grafix are tastefully updated & the actual gameplay is VERY similar to the original, including the transfer sub-game. Oh, and did I mention it's free!?In regards to sound, I haven't been able to judge as I've muted the sound out of respect for my wife who is asleep next to me!If you're a huge fan of the original, this is definitely worth your while, even if it isn't exactly like the original.
